Have you ever felt like your life is a house of falling cards? It’s not bad enough one thing happens, but then another, and so on. It’s times of great trial and pressure that our faith in Christ either blooms or withers. It’s times of uncertainty that force us to choose who to obey – God or the Devil? The problem is, choosing the devil is not always as blatantly obvious as it seems because anything that is not from faith is a sin (Romans 14:23). Therefore any time we choose doubt, anger, anxiety, worry, or fear – we’re batting on the opposing team of God and are working against His will for our lives. Literally any thought or action outside of faith is outside of alignment with God. This may sound harsh, but if we can subdue sin and become it’s master (Galatians 4:7) – only then will our faith increase and we will find peace that surpasses ALL understanding. That means in your biggest trial – you will find peace. When the storms of life are flooding your mind it is easy to get washed away in the current, going with the flow of wherever these unfortunate events are taking you. However, we don’t have to be tossed around by the storm – it’s our lack of faith, or are immaturity in Christ that causes this to happen. It’s almost like hitting your thumb with a hammer or sitting on a tack. In that moment, what is the first thing that pops into your mind? Cursing the hammer or tack, or, practicing the self control the Bible talks about and not falling into the sin of anger? These last few months I’ve found myself battling many issues of life, and while everything around me has been changing so fast, I almost forgot to realize – God hasn’t changed at all. His word and his promise still speak to me saying “The righteous will live by faith” (Galatians 3:11). Realistically, I cannot let God fight battles that I am trying to fight myself. I must step aside in faith and let guide my steps (there is still action on my part of course). So how do we just “step out in faith”? We pray boldly using our authority and pray for help. James chapter 1 says that if we don’t know what to do to pray because God LOVES to help us (James 1:5, MSG). This text also says he won’t condemn us. In the middle of your storm it’s okay to have a breakdown – as a matter of fact, it’s necessary. Praise God when you break down because out of your pain will come peace, joy, and beauty.
